Mindful Workspace Organization: How to Tackle Physical and Digital Clutter.

Let’s talk about your workspace—physical and digital. We all know that dreaded feeling when you’ve got 27 tabs open like emotional support pets. The panic hits when you think they’ll vanish with one Chrome crash, or when you have to clear your f*cking cache, right?!?!!

Last week, we discussed systems that need an audit. This week, it's about decluttering and creating focus. Whether you’re into tchotchkes or prefer a clean, grey minimalism, we each define “clutter” differently. But here's a fact: clutter, whatever that looks like for you, messes with your mental health. Women especially report higher stress levels in cluttered environments.

Now let’s talk digital clutter. It's just as overwhelming as physical clutter. Studies show it slows you down and raises stress. For me, hiring a digital organizing expert and virtual assistant, Jenn, was life-changing. She cleaned up my inbox, created virtual containers for projects, and helped me get systems in place...ya know mindful workspace organization kinda thing.

Simple Strategies for Digital Organization

Here are a few simple strategies that work:

  1. One project, one tab – only keep open what you need for the task at hand, while you can use more than one tab and I often do, make sure those tabs are only related to the project you’re working on.

  2. Single task focus – stay on one task. If you have ideas about other projets jot them down and come back to them later.

  3. Look ahead meeting – organize your files just like you would your physical stuff. If it has a place, it won’t clutter up your brain.

Reality Inventory: Do you have a digital clutter problem? Ask yourself, can you really focus with your current setup? Start small: close those extra tabs, delete a few emails, and give yourself room to breathe and focus.

Take control of your workspace—both physical and digital. Be courageous, capable, and strong enough to clear the clutter.
